No Candlelight Vigil here.
Sorry folks. I am not lighting candles for the "victims of gun violence", no matter how well-intentioned the PR campaign-for-relevance is. I have two "victims of gun violence" in my own family and at least one friend too, and I am not playing the game of "blame the tool, not the wielder". The Brady Campaign can suck it.
My son was not mugged by a gun. He was mugged by a mugger who used a gun. My friend was not robbed by a gun, he was robbed by a robber who armed himself with a gun. My uncle died from a gunshot wound, and the gun did not fire itself.
I carry a gun. Daily. Not because I have something to prove, because I don't. I carry a gun daily because it is the most effective tool for self defense that I own. My wife now owns one of her very own, too.
The Brady Campaign would tell you that my wife would be better off in an encounter with a mugger, rapist, or murderer if she just gave them whatever they wanted. Just lie back and think of England, or some-such rot. Nonsense. Why should we acquiesce to the predators in our society? Why should we allow our finest and fairest to be victimized, just so some milquetoast, namby-pamby, progressive policy wonks can feel better about themselves? Screw that. I am done playing their games.
In honor of those who have sacrificed everything, so that we can have our Liberty, here is a tribute. To our Fighting men and women of the military, and to those freedom fighters everywhere in the world striving to keep the flame of Liberty alive, I salute you. I stand ready to join you at the call.
Maybe my wife will even let me borrow her gun... :)

Ban Medical Licenses!
In response to the shrill calls from the left advocating for infringement of my constitutionally enumerated right to Keep and Bear Arms, I propose instead that we ban medical licenses. If that seems far-fetched, how about we ban abortion as a "right" (a right NOT enumerated in the Constitution) instead?
It is time to face facts. Using 2008 statistics (the data for which is easily cross-referenced), the FACTS show that there were 16,272 murders and non-negligent manslaughter deaths in the USA, NATIONALLY. In Pennsylvania, this number was 701. And, in Philadelphia, the total was 331. Source: FBI Crime Stats (National, State, PA City)
Using 2008 statistics, this time for the state of Pennsylvania only, there were a total of 38,807 abortions performed in that state. Of these, 18,633 were performed in Philadelphia alone (15,377 women were residents of Philly, the rest commuted to kill their child). Source: Pennsylvania Department of Health 2008 Vital Statistics on Induced Abortions (PDF File)
In 2008, Doctors legally killed more children in the City of Philadelphia alone, than the total number of homicides committed nationally.
I wonder how many of those were killed by Dr. Kermit Gosnell? I wonder how many of them were killed AFTER being born? I wonder how many of them were only considered a homicide due to inconvenient timing? Because, as we all know, it isn't REALLY a life until some Liberal says it is...
Of course, if a Democrat Congressperson and her constituents were the victims, then there is justification for all manner of infringements and power grabs by the Elites and the Statists. Just ask them.

If you are not angry about this, you are not thinking
The DC government is being sued by surviving members of a family that was murdered while the police cowered outside.
The murdered family did not have a gun inside the house.
Legal possession of a functioning gun in DC is made difficult (it was formerly a prosecutable crime) by labyrinthine lawsinfringing regulating acquisition, transport, storage, and usage (keeping and bearing) of arms in DC. Until the Heller case (and now McDonald), the laws prevented the people from owning functioning tools of defense in DC. The tools are were outlawed, whereas now they are just damned-near impossible to legally obtain for someone without considerable means.
Under existing case law, the District is immune from liability and has no duty to protect an individual citizen from crime (even when the crime is ongoing and the police are on-scene). Current jurisprudence on this matter will likely cause the case to get tossed based upon stare decisis grounds.
This situation is an outrage. The honest, law-abiding citizen cannot reasonably get a gun because the government heavily regulates purchase and possession. Yet, the very same government is immune from liability arising from the consequences of their prohibitions and proscriptions against the citizen's access to these tools. Without the proper "papers please", the citizen is a de facto criminal for acquiring the ability to do what the state refuses to do and cannot be held liable for if they refuse.
Question: At what point do the citizens take the responsibility for self-defense seriously and begin the process oftarring and feathering voting out the scum-sucking political class who have put these poor people into this situation in the first place?
The criminal boyfriend was not deterred by the law. Only the law-abiding were harmed. $60 million is not sufficient penalty to ease this family's suffering. Justice would place every politician, bureaucrat, and policeman who supported these asinine laws on the docket for accessory to murder.
Restore the Second Amendment rights to the people, or the people will do the restoration themselves. At this juncture, it is only a matter of time...

QOTD - HogDaddy
It saddened me to read that the NRA sold out my First Amendment Rights to ensure that the NRA's First Amendment rights were not infringed. The Second Amendment is supposed to be used to protect the other Nine. Therefore, even though the association's focus is the Second Amendment, it should never agree to stand idly by while other freedoms are infringed upon. The musings of a 'Big Man" on the NRA sellout over the DISCLOSE Act.
I agree. While the NRA is a "Single issue" organization, their willingness to sell out their principles in order to retain their advocacy has a chilling effect upon those of us who are not as large, nor as powerful. I am still an NRA member, but I recognize their limitations and will do whatever is necessary to preserve, protect, and defend my constitution from all enemies. Even if it is the NRA.

Times Square bombing attempt question
How come the State-run "Mainstream Media" is ignoring the fact that the attempted bombing vehicle was parked outside of Viacom's building? The only references seem to be three obscure bloggers...
You know, Viacom. That behemoth media conglomerate that owns MTV, VH1, CBS, Paramount, and Comedy Central. Comedy Central, the network on which South Park airs. The same South Park which had the temerity to depict the prophet Mohammed in a bear suit, and then caved to pressure after the humorless jihadists threatened death.
It is almost like it isn't news if the Islamist Jidahists attempt to kill people. Dog bites Man, and all that...
Now, if it was Tea Partiers, or Constitutional Militia types, they would be all over it. Because, it fits the narrative that they are trying to create, even though it is at odds with reality. It is almost as if the Media Complex has an agenda...

Window Wars
There is a bit of a dust-up going on in the comments over at Sipsey Street. The contretemps revolves around the fact that a little activity has been advocated, Sons of Liberty style, towards the Democrat Party offices as protest for their unconstitutional and intolerable acts against the people.
I find it illuminating that most of those who are complaining on behalf of those poor, misunderstood, do-gooders in office are all doing so anonymously. These keyboard commandos are also making death threats against the blog owner. All in the course of peace, love, and understanding dontcha-know. The responses mostly fit the Liberal Stereotype of a Southerner and their solution to same, to wit: "let's kill all you cousin-humping, neanderthal, knuckle-dragging, rednecks so we can all live in peace and love and fellowship and tolerance once you are gone".
I guess they failed Irony 101.

U.S. SENATE,
Washington, DC, March 12, 2009.
Hon. Kent Conrad,
Chairman, Committee on Budget, U.S. Senate, Washington, DC
Hon. Judd Gregg,
Ranking Member, Committee on Budget, U.S. Senate, Washington, DC
DEAR CHAIRMAN CONRAD AND RANKING MEMBER GREGG: We oppose using the budget reconciliation process to expedite passage of climate legislation.
Enactment of a cap-and-trade regime is likely to influence nearly every feature of the U.S. economy. Legislation so far-reaching should be fully vetted and given appropriate time for debate, something the budget reconciliation process does not allow. Using this procedure would circumvent normal Senate practice and would be inconsistent with the Administration's stated goals of bipartisanship, cooperation, and openness.
We commend you for holding the recent hearing. entitled ``Procedures for Consideration of the Budget Resolution/Reconciliation,'' which discussed important recommendations for the upcoming budget debate. Maintaining integrity in the budget process is critical to safeguarding the fiscal health of the United States in these challenging times.
Sincerely,
Mike Johanns; Robert C. Byrd; David Vitter; Blanche L. Lincoln; George V. Voinovich; Carl Levin; Johnny Isakson; Evan Bayh; Kit Bond; Mary Landrieu; James E. Risch; E. Benjamin Nelson; Lamar Alexander; Bob Casey, Jr.; Michael B. Enzi; John McCain.
