1911 shopping

Trimming the list down, the ones that are nearing the top of the shopping pile are the:

Remington
Ruger SR1911
Springfield Range Officer
Colt XSE

There are things about each that I like, and also things about each I dislike. Trying to find them in the wild has proven to be a difficult task. Used 1911s are going for near full-retail as well. New, at auction, are all above MSRP. I think it is time to begin begging friends to see if anybody is selling.

NOVA Arms in Herndon had a fair number of Colts and a Remington when I was last there. They said they have only been able to get their hands on one SR1911... and also they weren't impressed with it.

Check out the Ruger too. Supposed to be what the Remington promised, but wasn't.

Me? I have had good luck with the Paras. Not the LDA's (I only have two of those) but the standard 1911 single stack.

Yer gonna pay full boat (or nearly so) for a lightly used one.....Maybe look at a used custom? A few dollars more, but a hell of a lot more gun for the bucks.

I don't know whether you've considered STI's offerings, but I highly recommend taking them into consideration. As value-for-money 1911's, I don't think any other manufacturer comes close. Their Spartan and Trojan models are (IMHO) head and shoulders above the competition in their price brackets.

Test Drove Mopar's Ruger last month in N.E. If I was in the Market for a NEW 1911, that's the one I'd go for.

Wound up getting a Colt Combat Commander in Stainless (model 4012XSE). For her. :) I am still looking for one for me, but the gun-buying kitty is empty right now.
