Media marketing

When confronted with media today (especially Social Media), it will help you to understand that YOU are the product being marketed, and then act accordingly.

Every secret, every action, every link that can be made to tie you to products and services will be exploited to the fullest. Every item of personal content is another check in someone's box to define how to sell you something. Further, every link put out there is also useful to others in identifying you, no matter how anonymous you desire to be.

Think about it.

FB and Google should pay us.

A penny per search or status update would be fair, I think.

(and completely destroy their business too)

Yeah, but if they want my cash, they better give me some first. They can put all the Ads out there they want, but if I ain't got the Bucks, it's a waste of their time.

Schneier called that one of the emerging threats today.

I got a couple of hits on this thread from the CIA today. Don't think that the above message only applies to social networking...your 'friends' define your 'tribe'. The Government that has no qualms about surreptitiously placing GPS trackers on your car, or that runs cell phone trace data without warrants, is perfectly capable of-even adept at-exploiting social media to keep tabs on you.

They also don't have to track everybody. As with all repressive regimes it's only necessary to make an example of a few to terrorize everyone.
