Window War
Folks, let me be perfectly clear here. The people of these United States have expressed their opposition to the Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda. They were mocked, openly scorned, and dismissed.
The people gathered by thethousands millions around the country on 4/15/09 and 9/12/09, and then again on the Capitol steps last weekend. They were mocked, openly scorned, and dismissed.
When the people shout from the rooftops that they do not want what their electedrepresentatives Masters are doing, they should be heeded. Instead, they are mocked, openly scorned, and dismissed.
So, for those who call for the same tactics to be used, via the political process - the soapbox, and the ballot box; and, when those tactics yield the same results as before, I ask you: "What is next"?
Surely the message must be heard at some point, right? Well, it is obvious to me that the message IS being heard. It is just that the message is unwelcome to the collectivists and do-gooders and Marxists in charge right now. The MESSAGE is being mocked, openly scorned, and dismissed.
After all, they WON, right? Forget that pesky Constitution.
With the above the state of affairs currently in the United States, I pose the question: How would you change your message delivery such that it bears consideration? I am open to suggestions. I do not condone breaking windows, but neither will I condemn it.

HB 1379 Provides that certain Northern Virginia localities may adopt local ordinances that regulate the possession and storage of firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof at child-care facilities, so long as such regulation remains no more extensive in scope than comparable state regulations applicable to family day-care homes. Passed by both houses.
HB505 The Restaurant Carry bill. Passed by both houses.
If I missed anything, I apologize. I would like to extend an extra-large helping of thanks to Delegate Mark Cole and Senator Richard Stuart for championing freedom and gun rights this session.
I also want to heap an extra-large pile of scorn onto Senator Henry Marsh III. Shame on you Senator for resorting to parliamentary shenanigans in order to let four pro-crime, anti-freedom politicians kill the will of the people this year. What you pulled this year with the creation (with 2 weeks left in the session) of your anti-gun goon squad to kill these bills was sheer cowardice. I intend to make it my mission to dog you, Senator Puller, Senator Howell, and Senator Lucas and see to it that you get run out of town and back to private life where you can't thwart the people any longer.

Us versus Them

Our very existence as free-thinking individuals is anathema to them. Our lives stand in contrast to theirs in such stark relief that their only answer is our destruction. Their self-image will allow nothing less, lest cognitive dissonance drive them insane.
We would be wise to remember that when dealing with them.

Window Wars
There is a bit of a dust-up going on in the comments over at Sipsey Street. The contretemps revolves around the fact that a little activity has been advocated, Sons of Liberty style, towards the Democrat Party offices as protest for their unconstitutional and intolerable acts against the people.
I find it illuminating that most of those who are complaining on behalf of those poor, misunderstood, do-gooders in office are all doing so anonymously. These keyboard commandos are also making death threats against the blog owner. All in the course of peace, love, and understanding dontcha-know. The responses mostly fit the Liberal Stereotype of a Southerner and their solution to same, to wit: "let's kill all you cousin-humping, neanderthal, knuckle-dragging, rednecks so we can all live in peace and love and fellowship and tolerance once you are gone".
I guess they failed Irony 101.

I am willing to support my family members who are currently receiving any Federal entitlements, without the FedGov dollars. You should be too. It is time to shut off the "Third Rail" for good...

On the eve of an historic vote in the House of Representatives, with the fate of one-sixth of the economy directly affected, I thought I would see what the media was saying about it.
So, the first stop was CNN:

So far, no evidence that there is any controversy. Unless, you count a brief blurb about The Won dropping in to pimp his plan.
How about CBS?

It seems like the Catholic Priests abuse scandal is what is important to these media outlets. Health care? Not so much.
I wonder what Fox is covering?

Oh. There might actually be something going on in Washington DC this weekend. Not that you could tell by looking at the other sites. And people wonder why Fox has a larger audience...

However, I see what is going on in the US today and I do wonder. I wonder about what the power elite currently in charge knows that we ordinary citizens do not. I wonder because the overwhelming opposition to the policies being rammed through right now doesn't seem to matter to them at all. They know that continuing down this path is political suicide, yet they continue on anyway.
What is the secret?
Is it impending martial law due to economic collapse?
Is it massive voter fraud because of Motor Voter and the Illegal Alien vote?
Is it massive conscription as a result of the SERVE Act?
Is it incompetence?
Is it the unconstrained vision of Liberal Utopianism and the belief that all will be made right with the passage of this, for our own good?
Is it animus against the individualist because they don't want to be held up at gunpoint and forced to pay for their neighbors' troubles?
Is it that they just think they know what is best and want to be the ones administering the changes?
Is it that they know they are looters and think they can continue to get away with the looting a little while longer?
Is it all of the above? Or none of the above? Or something else entirely?
Whatever it is that is the driving force behind all of this HopenChange, I am not worried. Because my Savior lives.
Let the chips fall where they may.

Obamacare and the Constitution
I have much to say on the issue, and am so spitting-mad about the shenanigans going on in Congress right now that I am unable to keep this polite. So, I am going to simmer a bit more before I weigh in and, instead, give you something very brief and to the point.
I believe that passage of this into law might be the final abuse in "a long train of abuses and usurpations". The "Deem"-"O"-cRats are holding a match to the fuse of the biggest powder keg ever before the People. They WANT this thing to blow up so they can usher in the rest of their Progressive Marxist agenda. When the cost of this boondoggle begins to hurt the People, there will be public objections like we have not seen in more than a hundred years.
I pray that there won't be blood in the streets. If there is, let the Government be the side that fired the first shot.

Riddle me this
Hypothetical court test case:
Defendant owns sequentially numbered firearms itemized below:
Exhibit A: Mossberg 500 12ga, 18.5" barrel, standard buttstock, S/N xxxxxxx4, produced 01/29/xxxx

Firearm "A" is considered a shotgun according to the BATFE. If the owner cuts the barrel down to a length under 18", it is a violation of the National Firearms Act of 1934. Possession of the modified gun without registering it with the Federal Government (impossible to do with a modified weapon) and paying a $200 tax is a Felony.
Exhibit B: Mossberg 500 12ga, 18.5" barrel, pistol grip, S/N xxxxxxx5, produced 01/29/xxxx

Firearm "B" is not considered a shotgun according to BATFE. If the owner cuts the barrel down to a length under 18", it is not a violation of the National Firearms Act of 1934.
Please note that ALL of the parts on each firearm are interchangeable with one another. The act of putting the stock from Firearm "A" onto Firearm "B" would break no laws, according to BATFE, as Firearm "B" is not considered a pistol, nor is it considered a shotgun.
Arrest: Defendant swaps the stock and grip on his sequentially-numbered, but otherwise unmodified firearms. This act shortens Firearm "A" to an overall length below the minimum allowed and defendant is arrested by BATFE.
Accusation: Defendant is accused of violating NFA34 for possession of a contraband firearm, a "sawed-off shotgun" - Firearm Exhibit "A", without registering said weapon with and paying the Tax to the Federal Government.
No charges are filed for firearm exhibit "B".
If you were an honest judge, how would you decide?
As an aside- if you were to put a buttstock on an ordinary pistol, you would be in breach of NFA34. If you were to put a pistol grip on your rifle or shotgun in place of the buttstock, such that the overall length is less than the legal minimum, you would be in violation of NFA34. If the factory does it for you, it is legal as long as thetribute tax is paid.

Curious...
Over the past week, I have gotten numerous hits (more than a dozen) from the same IP address in Washington, DC. All of the hits have been to THIS page on my Blog, and no other identifying information is available (like domain name) about the visitor. In fact, the hits all look like this:

A WHOIS search of the IP yields the following:
This IP range is Verizon's FIOS network, but I find it curious that all identifying information is "Unknown". The typical network gateway for a Class C network would be x.x.x.1, and a TraceRoute of assumed gateway 173.79.114.1 resolves to Hostname "L100.WASHDC-VFTTP-91.verizon-gni.net". A Google search of gni.net associates to "GNILINK.net", which discovers a company called MarkMonitor, an internet brand watching and fraud prevention security company.
Which I find a little odd...
My questions for you, Mr. Anonymous Visitor, are: "Who are you?", "Why do you keep coming back to THAT PARTICULAR post?", and "What is your goal in doing so?"
Is there a networking professional among my scant few readers who can shed some light on how a domain user can mask itself to prevent source location from providing backtracking information? If so, who are the most likely people to use such a mask?
I am getting more curious by the day on this one...

Krauthammer gets it wrong on Islam
As much as I like Charles Krauthammer's take on most things, he misses the mark on this one regarding Geert Wilders.
For Krauthammer's argument to work, one must accept that the religion of Islam is accurately reflected by the actions of those people who are in the majority, in a predominately secular Western society like the US or Europe. To do so would be akin to distilling the essence of Christianity through the lens of those "Christians" who only attend church on Easter and Christmas. And, it would be just as wrong.
In neither case does the argument hold water. If you want to judge a religion, look to the most devout as examples of their faith. Do not use as the exemplar those who fall away and stray from the path of righteousness as described by the core tenets.
Mother Theresa never beheaded anybody...

Census 2010
Yesterday, I received a letter in the mail advising me that I would be receiving the census in the mail. This is in addition to the postcard I received a week prior advising me that I had a duty to complete the Census.
As if I didn't already know.
A lot of noise has been made about the fact that the long form collects statistical data including race, household income, etc. According to the Census Website, such queries are Constitutional. Now, I don't think that I want to be the test case challenging United States v. Moriarity, but nothing in the law says I cannot truthfully answer the questions in a manner that is unexpected...
Besides, I have already responded to the actual Article I, Section 2 requirement for enumeration.
The answer is 5.

Regarding THIS, please understand that carrying a loaded semi-auto rifle capable of holding more than 20 rounds is legal according to this Virginia Statute if you have a Carry Permit. However, all of the rules and exceptions apply.

Who is watching?
I discovered something interesting this morning while reviewing my site statistics this morning. I discovered that the banking giant Wachovia (North Carolina) is really interested in the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus.
I know this because Wachovia hit my site at 7:37:59 this morning on a Google redirect using the search term "VA Legislative Black Caucus Members 2010". That would not be noteworthy in and of itself. What is interesting is that at 9:26:23, I got a hit from the Virginia Legislature, also from a Google search, with the the search term "virginia black caucus article", followed by ANOTHER hit from Wachovia at 10:44:46, this time from their Richmond office.
Now why would Wachovia be interested in me? And, why would they be interested in what I have to say about the VLBC? And, why would they alert their contacts in the VLBC?
Was it something I said?
And while I am asking questions, why would the VLBC OPPOSE Charter Schools? In every place that they have been tried, and especially in predominately minority districts, charter schools have proven to raise reading and math comprehension, skill level, and testing. If the goal of the VLBC is to empower minorities who have been forced to attend under-performing schools where cronyism and tenured, unionized teachers have a monopoly on our kids' futures, then they should be SUPPORTING charter schools, not the education establishment.
Oh, I guess that would take spine and a willingness to risk campaign contributions for the good of the children. Perhaps that really is too much to ask...

Brady had a protest and nobody came
When the Brady Campaign decides to make a point, they sure can bring out the protesters! All 12 of them (and half of them got dragged there by their mommy-staffers)!
There were more photographers with cameras than photo subjects there.
Name recognition still counts for something though, the cameras did come. I wonder how many of those brave Brady staffers would be willing to come to Charlotte in May and protest the NRA convention? The NRA will only have a few thousand armed people there,shooting up the convention hall and terrorizing the town holding their annual meeting.
I'll bet you that the NRA convention garners fewer media cameras too. Because the narrative doesn't fit the reality and all that...

QTS Sale
Quantico Tactical Supply is still having their clearance sale at the Woodbridge location. I stopped in there yesterday and picked up a couple of things.
I purchased some 5.11 pants, a pair of 5.11 boots, and a heavy-duty belt. I also got a BUNCH of PMags for the EBR ($11.67 each, 30 rounds with window); and a SHTF vest for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Also, I stopped in to the local WallyWorld to check the ammo situation. It looks like .22LR and most of the rifle calibers are coming back into stock, as well as some of the pistol rounds. Still very little .45ACP, 9mm, and .40S&W on the shelves, but we do have a nice supply of .357Sig. Go figure...

Pentagon shooter was a what?
According to Peter Grier (email) of the Christian Science Monitor, the Pentagon shooter, Bedell, was a right-wing extremist.
My response:
In point of fact, both Joseph Stack and John Patrick Bedell were both sick, twisted people who had an axe to grind against certain aspects of Government, but could in no way be described as "Right-Wing Extremists". Since this doesn't fit the "Narrative", however, it will never be accurately reported. Just like the "Narrative" in the Media today is that people like me who oppose "The Won's" policies must be racist. The fact that I do not wish to live in a Marxist Utopia has nothing at all to do with the President's skin color, and EVERYTHING to do with his vision for the future of America.
But, since the people who control the reporting in the Press nowadays actually believe that the Marxist Vision is a good thing, those of us who dissent MUST oppose the policies because of racism. Makes perfect sense if you think about it. Racism doesn't call into question your core beliefs. It allows for the dissenter to be completely dismissed without ever having to consider the merits of his position.
Reporters like Peter Grier would be wise to unplug their ears and open their eyes to the reality of the situation on the ground in America today. Even if they don't like what they are hearing, it would behoove them to check out the facts for themselves. Or, if they insist on drinking the Government Kool-Aid, at least "Trust, but verify".

Sorry, Peter. You sang the words but got the tune wrong. In point of fact, 9/11 "Truthers" are Bush-hating leftists. This particular Bush-hating Leftist would fit right in with Rosie O'Donnell's friends as another anti-military loon who thinks that the CIA tumbled the Twin Towers as an excuse to make war on Iraq.
If you had taken the time to do ANY investigation on this, you would know this. Instead, you polish up the narrative from other left-wing liars like SPLC and present their information as factual truth. Tell me, what ever happened to journalistic integrity? Maybe there is hope in Richmond?
While the special sub-committee formed by Senator Marsh in order to kill pro-gun bills (and especially "one-gun-per-month") did its intended job for the most part, some bills did make it out of this committee. The bills that passed out of the sub-committee are:
I understand the desire to give "Only Ones" this kind of special treatment, but would prefer to see this adopted for all law-abiding citizens.
The committee also "conformed" two House bills to their Senate counterparts, which have already been passed. House Bill 505 (the restaurant concealed carry bill) was passed out of the subcommittee with the bills language conformed to SB334. House Bill 885 has been conformed to SB408, and allows law-abiding citizens to store a firearm in a locked container in a vehicle or boat.
As expected, the subcommittee killed the rest of the bills, especially their precious One-gun-a-month law passed by Governor Wilder.
Of greater disappointment to me was the defeat of the bill, HB79, which would have made private the application and issuance data of Concealed Carry permit applicant's information. This personally-identifying information has no business being disclosed to the general public, newspapers, or other third parties. The availability of this data puts gun owners at risk and exposes them needlessly.
Perhaps Senator Puller or Senator Howell or Senator Lucas would like to have their personal information made available to the general public? I guess it is a good thing that they don't have any abusive ex-partners that they need to defend themselves from, right? It seems to me that this common-sense reform would have been easy to justify, even to a gun-hater.
Maybe privacy is only for the powerful...

House Bill 109, sponsored by Delegate Mark Cole (R-88), repeals the statute which allows the governing body of any county to require the sellers of pistols and revolvers to furnish the Clerk of the Circuit Court with the name and address of the purchaser, date of purchase and the number, make, and caliber of the gun.This pistol registry data should have never been collected in the first place. This is needed reform and I applaud the sub-committee on passing the bill out.
House Bill 1092, sponsored by Delegate Anne B. Crockett-Stark (R-6), would give retired law-enforcement the ability to carry a concealed handgun without a permit.
I understand the desire to give "Only Ones" this kind of special treatment, but would prefer to see this adopted for all law-abiding citizens.

Morgan Griffith (R-8), allows a circuit court judge to authorize the Clerk of Court to issue concealed handgun permits in instances where the application is complete, the background check does not indicate that the applicant is disqualified, and, after consulting with the local sheriff or police department, there are no other questions or issues surrounding the application.It is my hope that this streamlining of the process doesn't result in the unintended consequence of a Clerk or the Sheriff holding up applications without just cause in violation of our "Shall-Issue" laws.

In it, you just might find that the recent Special Election in District 41 was won by Eileen Filler-Corn, an employee of lobbying firm Albers & Company, and wife of Democrat operative and pollster Robert Corn.
I guess if you are going to buy a seat in the Virginia Legislature (she outspent her opponent 4:1 and only garnered 50.1% of the vote), it helps to have employers, friends, and family inside the Democrat machine to ensure your victory. Oh, and she supports gun control, too. She is also owned by the Labor Unions, but what Democrat isn't?

Marsh's anti-gun Goon Squad to meet March 4th
The header above is mine, the alert below is from the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action. I don't think I have sufficient vocabulary to describe my utter disdain for the cowardly and underhanded way Senator Henry Marsh is handling the gun law reforms.
The citizens of Virginia are clamoring for these common-sense reforms, yet Senator Marsh knows what is best for us (or what is best for keeping his donations flowing). Richmond, you deserve a Senator who will fight for ALL of your civil rights, not just the ones which are "politically correct".
Once upon a time, brave freedom fighters fought "The Man" for their rights. Sadly, now "The Man" is Senator Marsh and his anti-freedom colleagues. Dogmatic adherence to Liberal Orthodoxy seems to be the rule of the day now, instead of continuing the fight to dismantle the remaining restrictions disproportionately affecting minorities in Richmond, Fairfax, and Portsmouth.

Virginia: New “Special” Firearm Sub-Committee to Meet on Thursday, March 4!

On Thursday, March 4, the new “special” Senate Sub-Committee created to handle all firearm related bills passed by the House of Delegates, will meet at 2 p.m. in the 4th Floor East Conference Room.
State Senator Toddy Puller (D-36) will Chair this new special Sub-Committee and be joined by her fellow rabid anti-gun colleagues; State Senator Marsh (D-16), State Senator Louise Lucas (D-18), and State Senator Janet Howell (D-32). The sole Republican member of the Sub-Committee will be State Senator Frederick Quayle (R-13). Please contact the members of this sub-committee and urge them to request a fair hearing on firearm bills. Contact information can be found by clicking on their name.
Also, please contact Senate leadership and your State Senator and tell them you oppose the formation of this blatantly anti-gun sub-committee. Listed below are the bills, which the special Senate Sub-Committee is expected to hear:
House Bill 26, authored by Delegate Thomas Wright (R-61), would prohibit the Clerk of the Court from requiring an applicant for a concealed handgun permit to provide any documentation or information not authorized by the law or prescribed by Virginia State Police.
House Bill 52, sponsored by Delegate Mark Cole (R-88), would allow a court to waive a $25 dollar fine upon presentation of the permit to the court, if a person fails to display his concealed carry permit when requested by a law-enforcement officer.
House Bill 79, sponsored by Delegate R. Lee Ware (R-65), would prohibit the Clerk of Court from publicly disclosing concealed handgun permit application information unless the permittee has provided written consent for the release of the application or information. The information would still be available to law-enforcement acting in the performance of their duties.
House Bill 108, also introduced by Delegate Cole (R-88), would prohibit agents of localities or localities themselves from participating in “gun buy-backs” unless the governing body of such a locality authorizes such a program. The locality would then have the option of selling the firearms by auction to a federally licensed dealer (FFL) or disposing of the firearm in any other appropriate manner.
House Bill 109, also sponsored by Delegate Mark Cole (R-88), would repeal the statute which allows the governing body of any county to require the sellers of pistols and revolvers to furnish the Clerk of the Circuit Court with the name and address of the purchaser, date of purchase and the number, make, and caliber of the gun.
House Bill 171, authored by Delegate Brenda Pogge (R-96), would prohibit property owners, employers, or a business entity from establishing or enforcing any policy prohibiting a person who may lawfully possess a firearm from storing a firearm in a locked motor vehicle in a publicly accessible parking lot.
House Bill 236, sponsored by Delegate Bill Janis (R-56), would remove the prohibition imposed by localities on hunting within a half-mile of subdivisions.
House Bill 854, sponsored by Delegate Will Morefield (R-3), would provide immunity from civil prosecution if someone uses force, including deadly force, to defend themselves and their loved ones if attacked in their home by someone who has entered unlawfully.
House Bill 870, sponsored by Delegate Benjamin Cline (R-24), would repeal the language that allows localities to fingerprint applicants for a concealed handgun permit.
House Bill 885, sponsored by Delegate Cliff Athey (R-18), would allow any person who may lawfully posses a firearm and is carrying a handgun while in a personal, private vehicle or vessel to keep the firearm secured in a container or compartment in the vehicle or vessel.
House Bill 1092, sponsored by Delegate Anne B. Crockett-Stark (R-6), would give retired law-enforcement the ability to carry a concealed handgun without a permit.
House Bill 1191, introduced by Delegate H. Morgan Griffith (R-8), would allow a circuit court judge to authorize the Clerk of Court to issue concealed handgun permits in instances where the application is complete, the background check does not indicate that the applicant is disqualified, and, after consulting with the local sheriff or police department, there are no other questions or issues surrounding the application.
House Bill 490, sponsored by Delegate Scott Lingamfelter (R-31), would direct the Department of State Police, in cooperation with the Secretary of Public Safety, to develop a plan to allow the State Police to issue lifetime concealed handgun permits to Virginia residents. The Department and the Secretary shall submit the plan, and any recommended legislative changes to implement the plan, to the Chairmen of the House Committee on Militia, Police, and Public Safety and the Senate Committee for Courts of Justice by October 15, 2010.
House Bill 1217, sponsored by Delegate Lynwood Lewis (D-100), would allow local school boards to offer firearm safety education programs in the elementary grades. To assist local school boards opting to provide such instruction, the Board of Education must establish a standardized program of firearm safety education for students in the elementary school grades to promote the protection and safety of children. The bill requires that the program objectives incorporate, among other principles of firearm safety, accident prevention and the rules of the National Rifle Association's Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program. Local school boards offering the program must comply with Board curriculum guidelines and integrate the instruction in appropriate subject areas, if feasible, to ensure that every elementary school student receives instruction in firearm safety education.
House Bill 1070, sponsored by Delegate Clay Athey (R-18), would provide that a person who has a valid concealed handgun permit may not be barred from carrying a concealed handgun in any place or facility designated or used by the Governor, any political subdivision of the Commonwealth, or any other governmental entity as an emergency shelter or for the purpose of sheltering persons.

What I cannot fathom is, how can the words "shall not be infringed" be so hard to understand? Why are we having these philosophical arguments at all?

Pro-crime Democrats stall in Virginia
In an effort to slow down legislation removing restrictions on law-abiding citizens, State Senator Henry Marsh III has created a subcommittee of rabidly anti-gun Democrats to handle gun issues.
The NRA is reporting this act as follows:
Senator Marsh has previously been quoted lamenting the fact that he didn't have enough votes to stop these reforms from passing in his Senate Committee for Courts of Justice. So, in what I believe to be a cynical ploy to retain control over these issues (against the will of the people and the majority in the Legislature), he has created this "Special" committee.
The members of the committee are Puller (Chairman), Howell, Lucas, Quayle, Marsh. Four "F"-rated Democrats and one "A"-rated Republican (Quayle).
Shame on you Senator Marsh. Shame on your pro-crime positions against the citizens of your district. Shame on you for supporting laws that have their history in racism and oppression against minorities. Your constituents deserve better than this.

With two weeks remaining in the 2010 session, the Chairman of the Senate Courts of Justice Committee, State Senator Henry Marsh (D-16), announced this morning the creation of a new “Sub-Committee” which will hear all the firearm related bills passed by the House of Delegates.
Senator Marsh’s motion is unprecedented and a direct slap in the face to Virginia’s law-abiding firearm owners and to the House of Delegates, which has already vetted and voted to approve these bills with many garnering strong bi-partisan support.
