The days have been hectic

Thursday, the daughter got hit by a woman in a parking lot. Since the woman backed up into my daughter (who was stopped behind her), my daughter is being blamed by the woman for "rear-ending" her. Yes, you read that correctly. This woman is blaming my daughter because she backed her SUV up into our little Honda and, because of the damage location, is claiming my girl hit her instead... (insert some JayG HATE/RAGE here).

So Friday, we got to play the insurance game. More to follow on that one later.

Saturday, cleaned up the garage and set up my little utility trailer because...

Sunday, moved OldestBoy into his apartment at college.

Monday, work, work, work...

Today, Work, Work, Work...

And life goes on.

Pax,

Newbius

Happened to me when I was 20. Middle-aged woman with her kids in a minivan, me in a Honda Civic. Cops wouldn't come out because it was on private property (a high school) and insurance sided with her.

It sucks. I hope your girl has better luck than I did.

IF there is a police report, i would talk to the DA about letting her know that filing a false report is a crime.

Have you checked to see if the store had security cameras in place?

Might be worthwhile to see if you can't get the footage.

I hope your daughter is okay and not injured. I've been through the accident routine with my daughter-- thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

This is mainly why I carry a (digital) camera with me. One time I was driving in the right lane of a 4-lane street and this dingbat in the lane to my left decided she wanted some Burger King and turned right in front of me, pushing meylittle Civic at a 45* angle into the curb to my right. My front left fender and bumper and passenger side front tire/wheel rim took the brunt of the damage and the entire passenger side of her SUV was scraped up. The oblivious dingbat comes out of her vehicle and walks to the rear of her SUV and claims that I rear-ended her, when you can clearly see the rusty dent in the bumper was something done long ago. Then I pointed out what she did to my car and her entire passenger side. She freaked out. When I pulled out a disposable camera (back then) and started taking pictures, and screamed at me as to why I was taking pictures. Of course, during that time, the cops were called and they came. The officer took one look at the accident and totally knew what happened. The officer asked me to wait in my car, but through the closed doors and windows I could hear her say that she was driving in the right lane. He retorted, "Ma'am, if you were driving in the right lane, that would mean he was driving on the sidewalk." I admit I had a bit of schaudenfreude right then and there. Of course the pictures I took clearly showed she was 100% at fault, but my insurance company wanted to put 20% of the blame on me. That's when I went ballistic on my own insurance company, "spoke" to a supervisor at the insurance company and the supervisor took off my 20% at-fault assessment and any future "adjustments" to my insurance policy. And since the dingbat's insurance company only sent me 80% of the cost of the repair bill, my own insurance company covered the rest, with no copay from my own pocket.

As for security camera footage from the shopping center, I hope you can get it for evidence.

The car insurance game sucks. I hope you win.

I heartily agree with the use of the word "dingbat" in such situations.

Negligent people cannot be made to judge their own actions, and no amount of government intervention will ever make them competent. I don't know if it's due to damage to the prefrontal cortex or whatever, but legislation cannot fix them. We can only hope that civil suits will either make them stop doing whatever activity they're too stupid to do, or make it too costly to do the activity, but punishing everyone else is expensive and pointless.

Sorry that your family member was harmed by an ethically retarded dingbat. My personal record is the woman who hit me in a bank drive-thru line at 1 mph. I mean, what's the maximum stopping distance there, five inches?
